I shoot beauty everywhere – in nature, in the home, in a studio with a full team of fashion professionals. Whatever the assignment, I take the same approach to my art – capture the fleeting beauty of life. I’m currently based in Calgary but travel extensively and love doing destination work. Eros, according to early Greek thought, isn’t just the god of sexual love and beauty, but is in fact the primordial life force, the creative urge of nature. To me it speaks of our human need for contact and aesthetically it means I hope my photographs convey a personal connection, which we express as being “touched” by something.

I am constantly inspired by the world around me, trying to experience as much of it as possible. Coming from a multicultural background has informed my sensibilities and aesthetic more than even I fully know. I love to look beneath the surface of things, to see both the unique and the universal aspects of the human experience. Growing up multilingual opened a lot of windows onto the world: the charms of old-world Europe stoked a desire to capture beauty on its own terms while the experience of otherness created a strong sense of longing and a need to see the bigger picture.

Early in life I was drawn to literature, captivated by the power of language to open up new worlds. Then came the realization that visual art had this same transformative grab: that films, paintings, and photographs didn’t just have a narrative function but had their own language. I studied cinematography with a voracious appetite for international films. While attending McGill University in Montreal I spent as much time making films as I did on my academic courses. My college years were a rich time of documentary film-making and photojournalism – capturing the plight of marginalized people and bringing their truths to light. Travel became and continues to be a necessity – not the superficial vacations, but the months spent immersed in other cultures, capturing beauty everywhere it lives.
